David has been based in Indonesia since 2008 and his international experience is highly valued by international investors, sponsors and lenders in the context of their strategic transactions in Indonesia. David is ranked as a leading energy lawyer in Indonesia and the Asia-Pacific region by the current edition of Chambers Asia Pacific.

David's recent energy & infrastructure experience includes advising:

  • DP World on the proposed development and operation of a US$1.2bn integrated container terminal and industrial logistics park in Gresik, East Java, Indonesia, and the related joint venture arrangements with Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ) and PT Pelabuhan Indonesia Maspion (Maspion Group).
  • Inpex Masela on the development and financing of its LNG project in Masela Block, East Indonesian waters, originally proposed as an FLNG project.
  • PT Pertamina, Marubeni and Sojitz consortium on the development and financing 2 x 880MW Jawa 1 gas-fired combined-cycle power project in West Java, Indonesia.
  • Pertamina in respect of the financing of the Balikpapan refinery upgrade, the US$3.9bn project to upgrade and modernize this refinery in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, Indonesia. We have also advised Pertamina on its plan to improve the capacity of other existing refineries, particularly refineries in Balongan (West Java) and Cilacap (Central Java).
  • PT Medco Power Indonesia and RATCH Group PCL as sponsors on the project development and financing of a 275MW Gas Fired Power Plant Project in Riau province, Indonesia.

David advises multinational companies on their inbound investments into Indonesia as well as cross border M&A transactions.

David’s recent Corporate M&A experience includes advising:

  • Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) on its acquisition of a 45% stake in PT Lintas Marga Sedaya, the concession holder and operator of the Cikopo-Palimanan (Cipali) toll road in Indonesia.
  • Glencore on its minority investment into PT Cita Mineral Indonesia Tbk, an Indonesian listed company and Southeast Asia's only vertically integrated bauxite producer, with interests in one of the region's largest alumina refinery.
  • Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation and PT. Bank Sumitomo Mitsui Indonesia on the merger of PT. Bank Sumitomo Mitsui Indonesia with PT Bank Tabungan Pensiunan Nasional Tbk. The merger will create a bank with one of the largest total assets value and capitalisation in the market.
  • Commonwealth Bank of Australia (“CBA”) in the sale of its Indonesian life insurance business, PT Commonwealth Life (CommLife Indonesia). Upon completion of the sale, CommLife Indonesia and CBA's Indonesian banking subsidiary, PT Bank Commonwealth, entered into a long-term life insurance distribution arrangement.
  • RATCH Group PCL on its acquisition of a sizeable minority and largest stake in PT Paiton Energy, Minejesa Capital B.V. and PT Paiton O&M Indonesia.
